In a previous post about the Yankees, I said you can't have it both ways when it comes to the Bombers and their big-ticket acquisitions.

The same holds true for you Jets fans out there when it comes to the firing of coach Eric Mangini and the uncertain future of quarterback Brett Favre. Mangini is gone, and Favre could very well be right behind him, much to the delight of Gang Green fans.

Listening to talk radio all day, you would have thought the Jets were 0-16 and Favre was not a future Hall of Fame quarterback. Do I think Mangini should have been fired? Probably, although I won't put all the blame on him. Do I think Favre is done as a quarterback? See my answer for the Mangini question.

There is no doubt the Jets have been awful the last five games, going 1-4 with losses to the 49ers, Seahawks, Broncos and Dolphins and their one win -- against the Bills -- was all but gift-wrapped for them.

However, the notion the Jets would have been better with Chad Pennington as their QB is laughable.

The overwhelming majority of Jets fans couldn't wait to push Pennington out the door, and I don't think it mattered who they were bringing in as their quarterback. And while I agree that Pennington has a renaissance in Miami, the Jets were no better than six wins with him.

I've never been a Favre fan, but he gave the Jets instant credibility the moment he took the field.

As for Mangini, he had two winning seasons and one losing one. Most coaches wouldn't be shown the door for that, but I can understand him getting the boot for the kind of finish they had.

But Jets' fans can't have it both ways. Everything couldn't have changed in one month.

Whether you agree with the offseason moves the Yankees have made thus far or not, I find it funny to see many Yankee bashers complain.

Look, you can certainly criticize the Bombers for spending nearly a half a billion dollars on three players, but please stop talking from both sides of your mouth.

Since the Yanks last won the World Series in 2000, they have acquired several big-name stars (via trade or free agency): from Alex Rodriguez to Jason Giambi to Mike Mussina to Hideki Matsui to Randy Johnson to Gary Sheffield to Johnny Damon -- the list goes on.

And in that time, the Bombers have 0 titles to show for it. In that span, the Yankee haters have gleefully proclaimed: "See Yankees, you can't buy a championship." A very fair point. But after signing CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira (pending a physical) for $423 million, all I've been hearing is how it's unfair the Yankees are buying a championship.

But I thought the argument was the Yankees couldn't buy a championship.

Hey guys, pick a side and stick with it.

So here are some thoughts from an interesting weekend:

Maybe the Giants miss Plaxico Burress more than they thought. Granted, Brandon Jacobs also missed Sunday's game in Dallas, but the Big Blue -- minus Plax -- scares nobody. The Cowboys do have one of the best pash rushes in football, but their secondary has never been great.

Eli Manning simply could not any open recievers and a good share of the eight sacks would be considered coverage sacks.

Maybe the Jets won't make the playoffs after all. Gang Green had to than their lucky stars Bills' quarterback J.P. Losman all but gift wrapped a win for New York. New York's defense looks awful and Brett Favre is beginning to look his age.

How funny (or sad depending on your perspective) would it be to see Chad Pennington return to the Meadowlands in the final week of the season and lead his Miami Dolphins to the playoffs, while knocking out the team that cast him off after acquiring Favre? Don't laugh, it could happen.

I don't care what the referee said, or what some "experts" have since said, nobody will convince me there was enough evidence to overturn the call on the field that Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes did not score the eventual game-winning touchdown against the Ravens.

I have seen the replays dozens of times and -- in my opinion -- there is no way to conclusively say the ball broke the plain of the end zone. Although I don't think it did, I also would not have argued if the ruling on the field was the ball did get across the line.

It makes me laugh to hear how some people are saying the Yankee are again trying to buy a World Series with their soon-to-be signing of aces CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett. These are the same people -- since the Yankees last won a championship in 2000 -- who have said 'see you can't buy a World Series.'

And now they're outraged the Yankees are about to sign the two biggest free agent pitchers this winter? C'mon folks, you can't have it both ways.

We all have our favorite sports teams, but what gets me is how teams are pitted against each other off the field.

Take for instance, this week's winter meetings. The Mets sign Francisco Rodriguez and trade for J.J. Putz. The Yankees agree to terms with CC Sabathia, are on the verge of doing the same with A.J. Burnett as well as closing in on a trade for Mike Cameron.

Both teams helped themselves greatly, but what's the angle of much of the talk? What team upstaged the other.

Should Mets fans really care who the Yankees are getting and vice versa? No.

Both teams did extremely well for themselves this week. Let's just leave it at that.

Let the talk begin when the teams get set to play each other in the summer.

When we last spoke before I went on an awesome extended vacation to Florida I gave you several predictions concerning New York teams. And if you all remember -- or if you simply re-read my last post -- I gave you these predictions with a word of warning: Don't trust my predictions.

Well, nearly two weeks later, let's see how these predictions have held up.

CC Sabathia won't be a Yankee -- look at what $160 million gets you!

Frankie Rodriguez won't be a Met -- 0 for 2!

The Yankees will overpay for A.J. Burnett and get either Mark Teixeira or Manny Ramirez -- the jury is still out on that!

The Mets will deal Luis Castillo and lay the groundwork for bringing in Orlando Hudson -- what was I thinking about!

The Giants would continue their roll toward a Super Bowl repeat -- that still could be, but -- nice shooting Plax!

The Jets would struggle to beat the Broncos -- how about losses to both the Broncos and 49ers that have made the AFC East wide open!

The Knicks would release Stephon Marbury -- I thought I was really close on that one, but all has been quiet lately!

So there you have it, as a local sports editor I'm no more expert on predictions than anyone else who has the opportinity to write a blog.

I can't wait to make my NFL playoff predictions.
