Hoop heaven

A quick congratulations to Red Hook and Wallkill on their respective MHAL boys and girls basketball championships.

Red Hook once again showed why it is the gold standard when it comes to area boys basketball. It's no coincidence Raiders' coach Rod Chando has 600 career victories.

Wallkill, meanwhile, showed perserverance pays off getting that elusive title after four straight attempts.

I'm really looking forward to sectionals next week.

Every dog has his day

Wow! I got one right!

For those of you who follow my prognostications are probably just as surprised as I am that I picked the Packers beating the Steelers in Sunday's Super Bowl.

I think that makes me about 2-for-10 with my playoff picks.

With a .200 batting average, maybe the Yankees or Mets will sign me to a minor league contract.

Here I go again

Alright, I can't help myself. I have to give my Super Bowl prediction.

For those who have followed my previous picks, are probably waiting anxiously so you know who NOT to pick.

First, let me say it's nice to see two very traditional cold-weather teams are playing. It kind of makes it fitting that the cold, snowy weather has followed both teams all the way down to Dallas.

I have been going back-and-forth all week with who I'd pick and I'm still not completely sold on it, but, for the sake of predicting:

PACKERS 24-21

Enough already

I'm sure I'm echoing the thoughts or area athletic directors, coaches and athletes when I say: "Enough with the snow already!"

It's bad enough our area high school and college teams play too many games in too few days, but you add in the snow that leads to postponements seemingly every day and now we're entering that time where many teams in some sports may have to play twice as many games each week to catch up.

All these teams and players are in the same boat, so there's no competitive advantage or disadvantage. It just makes things more difficult for everyone.

Maybe Mother Nature has dealt us the worse when it comes to all this snow and we'll all be spared these postponements as we head into the postseason.

Then again if you believe that, here's a little more cold water.

The next predicted snow we are expected to get comes Saturday — just in time for the Section 9 wrestling championships.

Will it ever end?
